PIP has recently attended a meeting convened by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in preparation for the 2nd Metro Manila Shake Drill on 22 June 2016. The meeting held last 11 May 2016 at the MMDA building, was participated in by various government and private sectors. MMDA officials, led by Chairman Emerson Carlos and General Manager Corazon Jimenez, facilitated the meeting and presented the scenario particularly to mall operators who will play major roles in the said drill. Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology director Renato Solidum and Undersecretary Alexander Pama of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, were also present as resource persons.
The 2nd Metro Manila Shake Drill aims to tap the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Bulacan and Rizal, to participate in the said drills and be part of the rescue teams to help victims of natural disasters. The identified four provinces are included in the improved and expanded quick response and disaster assessment plan, known as the Oplan Metro Yakal Plus. Through this drill, MMDA hopes to institutionalize, not only the “duck, cover, and hold” but also the response mechanisms to increase awareness of the people on survival approach and assistance to potential victims/survivors.
PIP and member companies are active participants in the various government-initiated emergency response exercises and drills, in addition to the regular conduct of drills initiated by PIP member companies internally for its employees and facilities.
